‘Wow you are a legend’: IU alum Antony Vo finds freedom and fanfare after Jan. 6 pardon

After leaving the speech, Vo and his mom walked to the Capitol with the crowd. There, they saw people climbing on the building and wanted to get closer to see what was going on. He said they walked up the stairs to the Upper West Terrace of the Capitol and recalled seeing 50-60 police officers standing back, not seeming to not be doing anything.

Former IU student convicted for Jan. 6 returns home from Canada

Antony Vo, the former IU student convicted for his involvement in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, returned to the United States after a hearing by Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board on Wednesday, his lawyer said.  
The Immigration and Refugee Board hearing ruled that Vo must be removed from Canada and issued an order that he cannot return for one year, Tibbo said.

Gov. Braun signs executive order directing law enforcement ICE cooperation

Gov. Mike Braun signed an executive order directing Indiana law enforcement agencies and the Indiana National Guard to fully cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday.  The Indiana Daily Student reached out to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Bloomington Police Department for clarity on what the order means for them going forward.

Who has Gov. Mike Braun appointed to head state agencies so far?

Gov. Mike Braun was sworn into office on Monday and has appointed over 20 individuals to lead various state agencies and departments.  Thirteen individuals are either remaining in their jobs from Gov. Eric Holcomb's administration or were promoted from senior positions in their agencies.

Indiana carries out first execution in 15 years

The last execution in Indiana was on Dec. 11, 2009, when the state executed Matthew Wrinkles. He was convicted of the murder of his estranged wife and two of her relatives.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office found probable cause for his arrest on Sept. 20 after an incident Sept. 19, 2022, in Seminary Square Park. According to a Probable Cause affidavit, a man reported to police that an unknown man, later identified as Swartzentruber, had assaulted and injured him. Former Bloomington City Council candidate and IU student David Wolfe Bender will not face criminal charges after a police investigation into his possible election fraud in February 2023 for listing an address that he did not reside at.

Fowler Pumpkin Patch, a family-owned seasonal pumpkin patch located at 5060 N. Greene County Line Rd., opened last week for its fall season. The pumpkin patch was founded eight years ago.

IU Dance Marathon raises over $3 million for Riley Hospital for Children

Thousands of IU students, alumni and community members participated in the 33rd annual IU dance marathon Nov. 10 through Nov. 12 at the IU Tennis Center.  The organization revealed they raised $3,003,837.23 to support Riley Hospital for Children at the conclusion of 36-hour event Sunday morning.
